Yes, GSAP is free to use, including in commercial projects. Webflow, which owns GSAP, announced in 2025 that the library and all of its plugins are free, including the ones that used to need a paid Club membership such as SplitText, MorphSVG and ScrollSmoother. The license has one restriction, covered below. This page summarises public statements and is not legal advice.

Sources. Webflow: GSAP becomes free and the GSAP Standard License. Terms can change, so read the current text before a commercial launch.

Try it on any site. The free animation library checker shows you which animation libraries actually run on a page (GSAP, Lenis, Framer Motion). Paste a URL, no sign-up for your first lookup.

What changed?

GSAP used to have a free core and a paid “Club” tier for the more specialised plugins. After Webflow acquired GreenSock, it made the whole library free under a Standard “No Charge” license. The practical effect is that the plugin list, once the reason to pay, is now available to everyone.

Which plugins are free now?

Webflow's announcement names the formerly paid plugins as included. Among them are SplitText, MorphSVG and ScrollSmoother, alongside the long-free ScrollTrigger. If a tutorial tells you to buy a membership or use a trial build, it predates the change.

Can I use it in commercial work?

Yes. Client sites, products and paid templates are all covered by the license at no charge.

Where is the limit?

The Standard License bars using GSAP in a product or service that lets people create visual animations without writing code, if that product competes with Webflow. A normal website, app or animation library is not that. If you are building something close to a no-code animation editor, check the license text and ask Webflow before you ship.

How do I tell which GSAP a site uses?

Open the console on the page and run window.gsap?.version. A version string means GSAP is loaded. The GSAP check guide has a tested snippet that also lists plugins and counts ScrollTriggers, and the GSAP animation inspector reads it from a URL. To rebuild an effect you admire, follow how to recreate a GSAP scroll animation, and keep to the legal line on copying.

Is GSAP the right choice for my project?

It is a strong fit for timelines, scroll-linked sequences and SVG. For a simple hover or fade, CSS needs no library at all. The Enrichr Library has small vanilla-JS elements for common effects if you want something lighter.

FAQ

Is GSAP free to use?

Yes. GSAP is free to use, including in commercial projects, under the GSAP Standard “No Charge” license. Webflow announced in 2025 that GSAP is 100% free, including the plugins that used to be members-only. Read the current terms on the GSAP license page.

Does GSAP cost money?

No. The core library and the plugins formerly sold with a Club membership, such as SplitText, MorphSVG and ScrollSmoother, are free. You do not need a paid license or a trial build.

Can I use GSAP in a commercial project?

Yes. The license allows commercial use at no charge. The one restriction covers using GSAP inside a product or service that lets users create visual animations without writing code, if it competes with Webflow. If your product looks like that, ask Webflow before shipping.

Is GSAP still worth using?

It remains one of the most used web animation libraries and handles timelines, scroll-linked animation (ScrollTrigger) and SVG well. Whether it fits depends on the project: for a simple fade, CSS is enough and needs no library.

Does GSAP work with React, Angular and Vue?

Yes. GSAP animates the DOM directly and is not tied to a framework, and a React hook package exists. In any framework, create animations after the elements exist and clean them up when the component goes away.

How can I tell which GSAP version a website uses?

Open the console on the page and run window.gsap?.version. The GSAP check guide has a snippet that also lists plugins and ScrollTrigger counts, and the GSAP inspector does it from a URL.

Is this legal advice?

No. It summarises public statements. For anything that resembles a competing animation tool, read the license text and ask Webflow.
