845 sites · 100 fonts · measured November 5, 2026Updated November 5, 2026

Inter is the most used website font you can get: 126 of the 845 well-known sites we analyzed draw their text in it. This list ranks the 100 fonts you can actually get (free or licensed) by how many of those sites use them, so every font here is one you can use. 69 of the 100 are free.

The 100 best website fonts, ranked

Ranked by the number of the 845 analyzed sites that use each one. Ties share a rank and are ordered by how much of each site’s text the font draws, which also decides who makes the top 100 when a tie straddles it. Each font links to its own page, and each site name on those pages links to that site’s own page.

What about fonts you cannot get?

622 typefaces appeared on these sites that are not in the ranking. We could not verify that you can license them, so they are not recommended, and the ranking says nothing about them beyond counting them. The names tell part of the story: 166 of them carry the name of the company that uses them, such as Expedia Centra No2, Adobe Clean, Uber Move, Canva Sans Sans, Anthropic Sans Text, Amazon Ember, Cash Sans, Salesforce Sans. A further 135 rendered fonts had names we could not identify at all, and 233 sites drew only system fonts. All of them are excluded from the ranking.

How was this measured?

  1. The sites. We chose 1083 well-known sites across 18 industries for recognizability, so the list is not only design-forward developer sites. It is a deliberate sample, not a random one, so read the results as what notable sites do. 845 produced a usable measurement.
  2. The measurement. Each site was opened in a real browser, scrolled a little so lazy text appears, and Chrome was asked, through its DevTools protocol, which font file drew each piece of text. That is the same data as DevTools’ “Rendered Fonts”, and it reports the font by the name inside the file, so a renamed font is still named correctly.
  3. Twice. Every site was measured in two separate browser sessions. A font counts for a site only if both saw it, which removes fonts that depend on timing or a test variant.
  4. What counts. A font counts only if it drew at least 2% of the site’s custom-font text. System fonts and icon fonts never count, because a system font depends on the computer that ran the measurement.
  5. What can be ranked. A font is ranked only if we could verify it is obtainable: open source in the Google Fonts catalogue (read October 21, 2026), in the Fontshare catalogue (read October 21, 2026), or checked against the foundry’s own page. Licences are stated only where a source says so.
  6. Roles. A site’s heading, body and code font are whichever font drew the most text in headings, in paragraphs and lists, and in code. A pairing is two different fonts doing different jobs on one site.

FAQ

What is the most popular website font?

Among the 845 well-known sites we analyzed, Inter is the most used font you can get, on 126 of them (15%).

How are the fonts ranked?

By the number of analyzed sites that use each one. Only fonts we could verify are obtainable are ranked, so every font on the list is one you can use.

Are the best fonts free?

69 of the 100 are free, and 31 need a commercial licence.

Why are brand fonts like Spotify Mix and SF Pro not on the list?

They are made for one company or one platform and cannot be licensed by others. We count them, but a ranking of fonts you cannot use would not help you.

How do you know which font a website uses?

We open each site twice in a real browser and ask Chrome which font file drew each piece of text. That reports renamed and self-hosted fonts correctly.

How were the sites chosen?

We chose 1083 well-known sites across 18 industries. It is a deliberate sample, so read it as what notable sites do, not every site.

Can I check a site that is not in the database?

Yes. Paste its address into the free font finder.

Can I use a font just because a site uses it?

No. Check the licence. Free and open-source fonts can be used freely. Commercial fonts need your own licence, even if you can see the file on someone else's site.

When was this measured?

On November 5, 2026. Sites change their fonts, so each page shows the date.
